KC Streetcar extension station shelters installed

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - As the KC Streetcar’s Riverfront Extension project continues, several stop shelters were installed this week.
Officials said the installation of three new streetcar stop shelters represents another major milestone toward the project’s completion.
One of the three shelters was installed at Grand Boulevard just north of 3rd Street. That shelter will be the new Northbound River Market stop. The other two shelters were located at the line’s terminus on Berkley Riverfront, near Riverfront Drive and Berkley Plaza.
KC Streetcar officials said the shelters feature blue steel frames, acrylic canopy s, upgraded lighting and hardware that is consistent with the shelters used on the Main Street Extension.
Each of the shelters is 8 feet tall and 15 feet wide. Station markers were installed at both station and officials said real-time arrival signs will be added later to give riders estimated arrival times for the next streetcar.
Construction of the KC Streetcar Riverfront Extension project began in 2024 and is expected to be completed and opened for engers to ride by early 2026 ahead of the FIFA World Cup’s arrival in Kansas City.
