KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Floral shops across the metro are starting to feel the pressure of tariffs.

The Fiddly Fig on Holmes Road is a hub for all things floral year-round.

Sheryl White has run the shop for 40 years, but has never seen her prices jump this high.

“It’s hard to know. We’ve faced challenges before, but we knew what they were, we knew how to deal with them, or we figured it out. This is hard,” White explained.

White said they started noticing the spike a couple of weeks before Mother’s Day, but pushed it to the side, having to meet the high demand.

Her flowers mainly come from South American countries like Ecuador and Colombia, some even from Canada, which is why she says they’re really getting hit.

“Just now, after Mother’s Day, we’re really getting a hold on it. We’re just now really seeing prices increase. I think it affected the flowers a lot more because they come in bi-weekly. We have to turn out our inventory often,” she said.

White said she’s seeing an 8% increase in her flora and greenery, along with a more than double spike in hard goods like baskets and pots.

She said she isn’t sure what customer demand will look like come Christmas time, and isn’t sure if overseas ships will have her supplies, let alone arrive on time.

She explained they’ve managed to keep their prices in check, but it won’t last long.

”It’s very hard to figure out what we’re going to do. We know prices are going to have to go up, and we hate it,” White itted. “We don’t want people to think we’re gouging them, but prices have to go up, or we won’t stay in business.”
