HARRISONVILLE, Mo. (KCTV) - A former Johnson County, Kansas, deputy is behind bars in Missouri after it was alleged that he had multiple illegal sexual encounters with an inmate.

Cass County, Missouri, Circuit Court records filed on Wednesday, June 11, indicate that David D. Sparks, 49, a Johnson County, Kansas, Sheriff’s Deputy, has been arrested in connection with several sex crimes charges.

A probable cause statement filed by the Cass County Sheriff’s Office revealed that on Tuesday, law enforcement officials were ed by investigators from Johnson County, Kansas, who notified them of an active extraditable warrant for the arrest of a resident.

Law enforcement officials noted that they found Sparks at his Harrisonville home and arrested him on the warrant, which was issued for three counts of unlawful sexual relations - a law enforcement official with an inmate 16 or older. The warrant had a $50,000 bond attached, postable only in Kansas.

The Johnson County, Kansas, Sheriff’s Office tells KCTV5 News that Sparks’ employment with the agency ended in December 2022, “due to a personnel-related matter.” A sheriff’s detective investigated and submitted the case to the District Attorney’s Office in 2022; however, the warrant was not issued until June 10, 2025.

As of Wednesday evening, Sparks remains behind bars in Missouri. An extradition waiver has not yet been signed for his return to Kansas to face his alleged crimes. No further information has been released.
