KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Kansas City Royals second baseman Michael Massey is the latest player to head to the injured list during the 2025 season.

Massey, 27, was placed on the 10-day injured list on Tuesday due to a left ankle sprain, the club announced. Massey’s IL stint is retroactive to June 8, the last time he appeared in a game for the Royals.

The move comes ahead of a six-game homestand against the New York Yankees and Athletics. Massey has struggled this season, posting a career-worst .202 batting average and .221 on-base percentage and .258 slugging percentage.

In 56 games, the Palos Park, Illinois, native has just seven extra-base hits.

In a corresponding move, the Royals recalled utilityman Tyler Tolbert from Triple-A Omaha. Tolbert has just five at-bats with the Royals this season, but has scored three runs and nabbed six stolen bases, appearing mainly as a pinch-runner during his time in Kansas City.
