Man charged for March fatal shooting at northeast Kansas City convenience store

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Charges were announced on June 10 against a Kansas City man for a fatal shooting in a northeast Kansas City neighborhood in March.

Jackson County Prosecutor Melesa Johnson charged Demarion Nichols with one count of second-degree murder and one count of Armed Criminal Action.

Kansas City police responded to a call in the area of St. John and Monroe Avenue on March 26 and found the victim with multiple gunshot wounds, according to court documents. The victim was announced dead on the scene.

Video surveillance that captured the scene shows the victim entering a store. A black Ford Fiesta arrived, and as the victim left the store, Nichols got out of the car. He stared at the victim until they ed, then pulled a gun with an extended magazine from his side and shot the victim.

Nichols continued to shoot at the victim, even after the victim fell between two cars. Nichols then got back in the Ford and let the scene.

Detectives connected the defendant to the shooting through social media and tracing information from his cell phone that located him on the scene at the time o the shooting.

The defendant is held without bond.
