LEAWOOD, Kan. (KCTV) - Two fawns have a renewed chance at life after they were rescued following the death of their mother.

The Leawood Police Department said the babies were found near their mother, who died after being injured on a fence. Since they were too young to survive without their mom, a team worked to rescue the fawns and find a facility that could care for them.

“ACO Lewis spent much of the day trying to find a facility that would be able to take care of the little ones,” LPD posted online. “Fortunately, she was able to find a team with the proper resources. Without her dedication and determination, they would have slowly starved.”

“Thanks to an observant resident, our outstanding team, and our amazing community partners, these fawns stand a chance of survival,” LPD said.
