Coca-Cola bottling facility opens in Olathe, Kansas
OLATHE, Kan. (KCTV) - Heartland Coca-Cola Bottling Company has opened its newest facility in Olathe, Kansas. It becomes the second warehouse in the Kansas City Metro, alongside the warehouse in Lenexa.
The 700,000 facility sits just off I-35 on 175th and South Hedge Lane. The campus is large enough to fit nine football fields.
According to Heartland Coca-Cola officials, the facility houses four production lines, two for aluminum cans and two for PET bottles. Line speeds can reach up to 2,000 cans per minute and 900 bottles per minute.
The bottling warehouse in Olathe is one of the biggest in the Midwest, serving families in Kansas, Missouri, Illinois, Iowa, and Nebraska. Officials said it will serve over 10 million customers.
Heartland Coca-Cola’s Vice President of Strategy, Kevin Shea, said the expansion to Olathe was a main focus for the company and a big part of its footprint in the Kansas City Metro.
“The first shipment of syrup to Kansas City was in 1902,” Shea said. “The Western Auto building was the seventh building in the Coca-Cola system before the Western Auto sign, that’s where it all started. This will be the next generation of the Coca-Cola products that are made right here in Olathe.”
Shea said the new facility also s local growth and marks a significant investment in the region.
