KANSAS CITY, Kan. (KCTV) - Public transportation and where people live and work go hand-in-hand.
That’s why the Kansas City Area Transportation Authority (KCATA) is announcing a partnership in the development of Redbud Reserve.
Redbud Reserve is a 192-unit garden-style affordable apartment community slated for construction on 10.5+ acres at 6909 State Avenue, Kansas City, Kan. That’s along the State Avenue corridor, which has been vacant for years.
If ed, construction is scheduled to begin in October with the hope of filling all rental units by June 2027.
Redbud Reserve will feature eight 3-story buildings, a clubhouse, a playground, and “ample” open space with the anticipation of increasing bus ridership.
“By locating Redbud Reserve next to existing RideKC bus stops, residents will enjoy convenient, car-free access to KCK Community College, local employment hubs, and retail centers,” said Michael Riley, KCATA Director of Transit-Oriented Development.
This would be the first residential community development in Wyandotte County with public transit top of mind. Seven other similar projects are currently in various stages in Kansas City, Missouri.
“I am excited about .. providing additional high-quality, safe, and affordable housing options for our students just across the street from the College,” said Greg Mosier, President of Kansas City Kansas Community College.
The $52.5 million development is being funded via federal and state tax credits, special bonds, conventional debt, and sponsorships.
