Groundbreaking held for parking garage in historic 18th and Vine Jazz District
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) -A groundbreaking took place on June 9th for a new parking garage in the historic 18th and Vine Jazz District.
The parking garage will add around 500 parking spaces, better lighting and fencing to the area.
The project is being built near 18th and Lydia, down the street from the Negro Leagues Baseball Museum, and costs $20 million.
Negro Leagues Baseball Museum President Bob Kendrick hopes the project will bring more of the community to the area.
“Parking has always been a , and this addresses some of that, and hopefully will continue to draw massive numbers of people to come and experience 18th and Vine,” Kendrick said. “Perhaps there will be a need for another parking garage at some point in time, but this creates a level of excitement, a level of energy that this district absolutely deserves.”
Kansas City is investing $400 million into the district, including new hotel.
