Former Coco Key Water Resort transformed into pickleball venue
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - The former CoCo Key Water Resort near the Truman Sports Complex has a new purpose after being vacant for years.
It is now SW19 at the Stadium, a new pickleball facility.
Pools and floaties have been swapped out for courts and paddles.
“This facility is amazing,” said Rebecca Earp, Kansas City Corporate Challenge Director of Media and Public Relations. “We were also here all day yesterday, and our participants love this place, I mean, look at it.”
The facility features brightly colored courts, room for watching and a restaurant and bar. General Manager Isaiah Peel says it’s more than just a game, it’s an experience.
“We wanted to bring life and entertainment back to a place where there was life and entertainment,” Peel said. “We wanted to provide the same thing with a pickleball restaurant and all the amenities.”
Peel said the sport became popular after Covid, and they want to make it accessible for every community.
“This is all about community, especially, you know, specifically to east Kansas City,” Peel said. “We’re all about getting the youth involved, we’re all about providing an opportunity for low-income individuals.”
With leagues, clinics, lessons, early play for just $5 and even corporate event opportunities, Peel says the vision is big.
“This is going to be a premier destination almost right near the heart of Kansas City, right next to the Chiefs and Royals’ stadium, it’s going to be amazing, it’s going to be fun, and I’m excited to be along for the ride,” Peel said.
The grand opening is June 11. There will be free, open play from 5:30 to 10 p.m. along with raffles and prizes.
