Doctor accused of sexual misconduct with children years after he reportedly faced similar allegations
DAVENPORT, Iowa (KWQC/Gray News) - A doctor in Iowa has been charged with sexual misconduct involving children after facing similar allegations years ago.
According to Davenport Police, 65-year-old Anthony J. Carbone is accused of groping two victims, ages 8 and 14, on several occasions in 2023.
Carbone was the chief medical information officer at MercyOne Genesis until a month after the alleged abuse took place.
A spokesperson with the hospital said Carbone was not treating patients while employed by the healthcare system from June 2016 until March 2023.
This is not the first time Carbone has been accused of wrongdoing with a child.
Carbone was working for a medical clinic in Ukraine in 2006 when he was the subject of a news story in the Kyiv Post.
The report said Carbone had been investigated by the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Medicine for inappropriate sexual with a 16-year-old patient who later died of a heroin overdose.
Carbone denied any wrongdoing in response to the report and said the incident was being used to smear his name.
Medical board records reviewed by KWQC said Carbone was never charged with a crime and voluntarily surrendered his Massachusetts medical license in 2000.
KWQC also reached out to Carbone, who declined to comment on the accusations.
The role of chief medical information officers, which is the position Carbone held at Genesis, varies. Typically, it involves serving as advisors and managing data and information.
Carbone is charged with three felonies: one count of indecent with a child, and two counts of lascivious acts with a child.
Carbone posted a $6,000 bond and was released from the Scott County Jail pending his arraignment, scheduled for July 3.
