Missouri ginseng growers, sellers reminded of new regulations
JEFFERSON CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Those who harvest and grow ginseng in the Show-Me State have been reminded that new regulations will soon go into effect.
The Missouri Department of Conservation has reminded ginseng harvesters and dealers that new regulations will become effective on July 1. Letters have been sent to ed dealers with information about approved regulations. Information has also been provided for dealers to share with harvesters.
Under the new regulations, conservation officials noted that a Ginseng Dealer Permit is required to buy and sell the plant in the Show-Me State, beginning July 1. The permit will cost $100 for residents and $300 for non-residents.
Conservationists indicated that only those with a Ginseng Dealer Permit will be allowed to buy uncertified ginseng. New regulations will also require all ginseng roots sold by a dealer to be certified. A dealer can possess uncertified roots that have been purchased but must certify those with an MDC agent before they are sold.
MDC noted that the regulations also add a fee of $25 per root certification. A Ginseng Harvest Permit is also required for harvesting in Missouri. Permits will become available on July 1. However, there is an exemption for landowners where they can get a no-cost Landowner Harvest Authorization Number.
