Former Marine charged with possession of child pornography
WARRENSBURG, Mo. (KCTV) - A former Marine has been charged with the possession of more than a dozen files of child pornography.
Johnson County, Missouri, Circuit Court records filed on Thursday, June 5, indicate that Marioangel Alvarado II, 27, of Warrensburg, has been charged with multiple counts of possession of child pornography.
A probable cause statement filed by the Warrensburg Police Department revealed that on Feb. 24, law enforcement officials were tipped by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children about the possible possession of child pornography by an individual in the city.
The tip indicated that a Kik had ed and shared files in private chat that had been flagged as child sexual abuse material. Investigators said they reviewed more than 20 files associated with the and found the presence of child pornography.
Detectives described these files as “sensitive and gruesome.”
Law enforcement officials noted that a subpoena of the IP address used by the was ed to Alvarado. A search warrant was served at his home on Wednesday, which led to the confiscation of multiple electronic devices.
During an interview, investigators said Alvarado itted he was familiar with the Kik . He was taken into custody. As a result, he has been charged with 5 counts of possession of child pornography. If convicted, he could be sentenced to up to 75 years in prison - 15 years for each count.
As of Thursday afternoon, Alvarado remains behind bars on a $150,000 bond. An initial appearance has been scheduled for 9 a.m. on Friday, June 6. His LinkedIn profile indicated that he served with the U.S. Marine Corps until 2020. No further information has been released.
