B&B Theatres showing Royals games for free this week at select locations
SHAWNEE, Kan. (KCTV) - Royals fans in the metro are swapping the ballpark for the movie theater this week, as select B&B Theatres are hosting watch parties as the Boys in Blue take on the Cardinals in St. Louis.
“I thought this was really exciting,” said Wes Wedermyer. “It’s funny because it’s two Missouri teams, so we ran into some Cardinals fans in there, too. I think it’s a wonderful idea.”
Decked out in Royals gear, fans grabbed classics, like popcorn and hot dogs, before making their way inside the theater. Some got there well before the first pitch to grab a good seat.
“We were excited,” said Jeremy Warner. “My son is really into baseball, so he was telling me all about who was going to be playing. They got one of their new guys coming up.”
That new guy? One of baseball’s top hitting prospects, Jac Caglianone. The Royals called him up this week; he made his Major League debut in St. Louis Tuesday.
“I was excited,” said Chase Warner. “I though that they should have done it a little bit ago.”
Some who went to the B&B Theatre in Shawnee already had their Cags gear.
“We actually went to Omaha this past weekend and got to see him play,” said Tyler Wagnom. “Glad we didn’t wait, because we would have missed him.”
Everyone said they’re ready to see how he plays in the big leagues.
“I was like wow,” said Wedermyer of Caglianone’s promotion. “Did not see it coming. I’m very happy about it, but we’ll just see. I think the fan base is very excited about this.”
Paul Farnsworth, B&B Theatres’ Executive Director of Communications and Content, says the organization is grateful and proud to be a partner of the Kansas City Royals.
“We have a presence at Kauffman with our Best Seats in the House, onscreen announcements and sponsorships, and we are (of course!) the official popcorn of the Royals! It’s so exciting to be able to flip the script, however, and bring a little Royal Blue to our big screens as we stream some home games at a half dozen theater locations across the metro.”
We know there’s nothing like a day at the ballpark, but it’s super fun to bring our movie magic atmosphere to the big leagues. ission is first come, first served and totally free, so it’s a packed event with great energy. B&B is family-owned and headquartered out of Liberty, so we’re not only excited to host, but rooting for the home team just like our guests!”
B&B Theatres locations in Liberty, the Northland, Shawnee, Lee’s Summit 16, and Mainstreet in downtown Kansas City will be showing the Boys in Blue on the big screen June 3-5. All games start at 6:40. Tickets are free and first-come, first-serve. Tickets are available at box offices starting at 5 p.m. before each game.
