Kansas City man killed ex-girlfriend on her 21st birthday, records say
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - A 25-year-old man has been charged with murder in the shooting death of a woman two weeks ago.
Rasheed Turner of Kansas City, Missouri, was charged with second-degree murder and armed criminal action in connection with the death of 21-year-old Layla Freeman.
A probable cause document stated that Freeman told her cousin the evening of May 13 that she was going to meet with Turner because he had a birthday present for her. Hours later, the relative’s text messages went unanswered.

Officers were called to the area of 37th Street and Pennsylvania Avenue at 9:45 p.m. on a reported shooting. Callers reported hearing the sound of gunfire and “Please don’t, no… please” before seeing a person down in the street, court documents stated.
Witnesses also reported seeing the shooting suspect, later identified as Turner, run to a blue Ford Mustang with a black convertible top before driving away from the scene in the vehicle.
Detectives later found Turner’s Facebook page and saw photos of the vehicle with the same rims and convertible top as were seen on city cameras from the time of the shooting.
He was taken into custody at the Jackson County Detention Center and booked without a bond.
