8-year-old drives for 20 miles at up to 85mph with younger brother in the car, police say
HARRISON, Ark. (KY3/Gray News) – An 8-year-old child was caught driving a vehicle at around 85 mph, leading police on a chase in Arkansas.
The child also had his 6-year-old brother in the car. Thankfully, no one was hurt.
The incident happened earlier this month in Harrison, according to the city.
Chris Graddy, chief of the Harrison Police Department, said police got a call from a witness who reported seeing a car that was “driving poorly” and appeared to be driven by a child.
Officers were able to locate the vehicle and confirmed a child was the driver.
They said the car had been traveling at 85 mph and drove from Pyatt to Harrison, about 20 miles.
Police said they found the vehicle stopped at an intersection. When the driver tried to take off again, officers pinned the vehicle in.
Police said no one was injured.
“It could have ended completely differently,” Graddy said at a city council meeting.
The chief said Marion County authorities are following up with charges for the parents for leaving the children unsupervised.
