KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - The Kansas City, Kansas, Community College has been honored with a Gold level for its dedication to being a Military Friendly School.

The Kansas City, Kansas, Community College announced on Tuesday, May 20, that it has earned the 2025-26 Military Friendly School designation. The campus also received a Gold level designation for the first time ever.

KCKCC noted that institutions that earn the Military Friendly School designation were analyzed with both public data sources and responses from a survey. More than 1,800 schools participated in this year’s survey, with 537 earning special awards.

“KCKCC earning the Gold designation is a product of a number of departments at KCKCC working together to showcase what we do for our military-d students and their families,” said Wade Abel, director of military and veteran student services at KCKCC.”

According to the college, methodology, criteria, and weightings were determined by Viqtory with input from the Military Friendly Advisory Council. Final ratings were decided by combinations of the institution’s survey scores with the assessment of its ability to meet thresholds for:

  • Student retention
  • Graduation
  • Job placement
  • Loan repayment
  • Persistence
  • Loan default rates

KCCC indicated that gold institutions represent overall survey scores above 41% and have 5 or more qualifying benchmarks.

“Military Friendly® is committed to transparency and providing consistent data-driven standards in our designation process,” said Kayla Lopez, national director of Military Partnerships, Military Friendly®. “Our standards provide a benchmark that promotes positive outcomes and services that better the educational landscape and provides opportunities for the Military Community.”
