SEDALIA, Mo. (KCTV) - Charges have been filed against a Sedalia man accused of soliciting child pornography through Snapchat.

Pettis County, Missouri, Circuit Court records filed on Thursday, May 8, indicate that Edgar G. Santiago, 38, of Sedalia, has been charged with the possession of child pornography.

A probable cause statement filed by the Sedalia Police Department revealed that in March 2024, the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children received a tip from Snapchat that its services had been used to view child pornography.

The tip was not reviewed by local law enforcement officials, however, until October 3, when investigators found that the in question had been used to talk to an individual who claimed to be the mother of two underage girls.

Law enforcement officials found the Snapchat , which was ed to Santiago, was used to request child pornography from the mother. A search warrant was requested and executed at Santiago’s home on May 7, after which, he was brought in to the police station.

During an interview with investigators, they said Santiago itted to having an issue with pornography but claimed that he would never intentionally look at child porn. He then began to cry and made several concerning statements. He was taken into custody afterward.

As a result, a single charge of possession of child pornography was filed against Santiago. He had been jailed on a $15,000 bond until Monday, when it was posted. A court hearing has been scheduled for 9 a.m. on June 12. No further information has been released.
