KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - A Kansas City man who shot at a Missouri State Highway Patrol trooper during a high-speed pursuit has received his sentence.

Christopher Northcutt, who pleaded guilty in January to first-degree assault, two counts of armed criminal action, unlawful use of a weapon, resisting arrest and tampering with evidence, was sentenced on Friday afternoon to 30 years in prison. The charges were the result of a high-speed chase on I-70 in Grain Valley on Nov. 19, 2022.

Court records in Jackson County said a driver accelerated away at a high speed after an MSHP trooper attempted to conduct a traffic stop for a traffic offense. After a pursuit began, a rear-seat enger in the vehicle emerged from the window and fired multiple shots at the trooper, striking the officer’s vehicle.

The suspect vehicle was eventually found abandoned at a hotel parking lot in Blue Springs. Surveillance footage from near the hotel and cell phone information led to the identification of Northcutt.
