Paying it forward: Dependents of fallen first responders gifted scholarships
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. (KCTV) - A new partnership aims to give scholarships to dependents of first responders who lost their lives in the line of duty.
It’s a collaboration between Johnson County and its community college, Johnson County Community College (JCCC).
The scholarship pays all tuition and fees for those who receive it.
The cause is something both county officials and JCCC are proud to be a part of.
“This scholarship, while we hope to never need it because of a line of duty death, we know that it’s comforting to the families to know that one important piece of a child’s education will be taken care of,” said Olathe Fire Chief Jeff DeGraffenreid. “It’s just nice to know friends are helping friends and neighbors in their time of need.”
The students eligible are kids from first responders out of 28 fire departments, law enforcement agencies, and Johnson County Med-Act.
