KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - The metro now sparkles a bit more as water once again flows to the many fountains around Kansas City - The City of Fountains.

More than 40 public fountains were brought to life on Wednesday, April 23, along with the fountain in Mill Creek Park, which was built in Paris in 1910. The fountain lived on the estate of a New York millionaire until 1951, when it became one of the more than 200 fountains that adorn the city.

On Wednesday, Kansas City, Missouri, Mayor Quinton Lucas ed the community to celebrate Fountain Day, which he said celebrates every corner of the city.

“A lot of people have talked about World Cup lately, and Super Bowls, and all kinds of types of things,” Mayor Lucas said. “I like to think that it is not those things that make us world-class - it’s the investments that we made long before. And the world just gets a chance to know all of them when they come here and they see what Kansas City is all about.”

During the celebration, community also honored the 100th anniversary of the Meyers Circle Seahorse Fountain, which bedazzled a Venetian square for nearly 300 years.
