4 out of 5 cats die after resident wakes up, finds house on fire in Lee’s Summit
LEE’S SUMMIT, Mo. (KCTV) - The Lee’s Summit Fire Department responded to a house fire on April 18 around 9:36 a.m. in the 600 block of NW Olive Drive.
The resident said they woke up to find the house on fire after opening their bedroom door.
They then closed the door and escaped through a bedroom window. Five cats remained inside the house when the resident escaped.
Firefighters reported smoke and fire visible from a window at the back of the single-story house.
Firefighters entered, fought the flames and did their best to rescue the five cats. Efforts to resuscitate four of them were unsuccessful. The one that was saved was transported to a nearby animal hospital by police.
The fire was under control by 9:48 a.m. There is significant damage to he bedroom, while smoke and heat affected the rest of the home.
