Downtown South Loop project named after former Missouri Senator Roy Blunt
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - A major project to connect the Central Business District with the Crossroads Art District by creating a cap over I-670 has a name.
The City of Kansas City announced it will be dubbed the Roy Blunt Luminary Park. Named after multi-term Senator Roy Blunt, the project is set to cover 5.5 acres over I-670 from Wyandotte Street to Grand Boulevard.

The project was announced at $160 million in April 2022, with state and federal funds to be added to the city’s contribution in paying for it.
City Council approved a contract from Clarkson Construction and JE Dunn as the general contractor for the project, setting the stage for the commencement of preconstruction services which will allow for the project to start some time in 2025.
Blunt served as Missouri secretary of state before his political career in Washington, D.C. He served as a Republican Congressman from 1997-2011 and then as a Senator from 2011-2023.

He was on hand for the project’s announcement three years ago.
“You got to have infrastructure where the rivers and the railroads and the highways and the roads and bridges of our state all work in the most effective way to make us as competitive as we can possibly be,” Blunt said at the time.
