Possible road rage on Lee’s Summit highway ends in gunfire and crash
LEE’S SUMMIT, Mo. (KCTV) - Police are investigating a possible road rage shooting on a Lee’s Summit highway.
Officers believe people in two cars started shooting at each other in the northbound lanes of Interstate 470 near NE Lakewood Way Friday afternoon.
The drivers involved in the incident continued north and into Independence. Police said that’s where the cars crashed.
Independence police officers arrived and detained the suspects. Officers from Lee’s Summit took the two suspects into custody.
There are no reports of injuries during the exchange of gunfire or the crash. The crash and investigation did cause police to close the northbound lanes of 470 and forced traffic off onto the Strother Road exit.
The highway reopened around 3 p.m.
