KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - A major trial delay was agreed upon between parties Wednesday in the case against Tasha Haefs.

Haefs is the Kansas City woman accused of decapitating her 6-year-old son and family dog. This all happened in 2022. Officers located Haefs covered in blood and the mutilated body of her son at their home. Haefs told officers at the time she killed her son and the dog because the devil was trying to attack her.

Shortly after, Haefs was ruled incompetent to stand trial, that decision was reversed, pushing the case forward.

In a phone conference Wednesday, Haefs waived her appearance, allowing attorneys to represent her inside the courtroom. This was one of the last hearings scheduled before jury trial was set to begin April 7.

Haefs’ attorneys told the judge they needed to file a continuance and push back the trial date to complete depositions. The state agreed to the delay, saying this could also give them time to review those completed depositions.

The judge agreed to the continuance, setting the new trial date for October 20, 2025.
