LAWERNCE, Kan. (KCTV) - A 22-year-old Lawrence man is behind bars after a 23-year-old victim sustained critical injuries during a shooting inside a vehicle at a Lawrence gas station.

The Lawrence, Kansas, Police Department says that around 11 p.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 19, emergency crews were called to LMH Hospital with reports that a shooting victim had been dropped off at the emergency room. The 23-year-old had suffered a critical gunshot wound.

Due to the severity of the victim’s injuries, law enforcement officials said he was taken to an area trauma center where he remains in critical condition.

Investigators indicated that the shooting was found to have happened inside a vehicle at the Casey’s General Store at 1703 W. 6th St. They continue to follow leads as they work to find those behind the shooting.

Law enforcement officials said they found that seven people were inside a vehicle when a 22-year-old suspect recklessly handled a gun. The firearm discharged and struck the victim.

LKPD noted that at least some of the individuals inside the car drove the victim to the hospital for treatment. Officers did not find the car at the hospital, nor all seven individuals involved.

Investigators said they learned the car was likely headed toward Eudora. The Eudora Police Department quickly found it near 13th and Cherry St. with only the driver inside.

The Police Department indicated that the investigation led law enforcement officials to a home in the 1100 block of W. 29th Terr. They monitored the home and were able to arrest the suspect around 2 a.m. safely. The firearm used in the shooting was also recovered.

The Douglas County Detention Center booking report indicates that Coby A. G. Holland, 22, of Lawrence, was booked in on aggravated battery - reckless with a deadly weapon.
