KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Now that the Kansas City Chiefs have punched a ticket to the Super Bowl, questions loom over what a celebration would look like if they win.

It hasn’t even been a year since chaos erupted at Union Station. Families were sent sprinting for safety after gunshots rang out. At least 22 people were injured, and one person was killed, Lisa Lopez Galvan, a local DJ host.

KCTV5 has been asking city officials for potential plans for weeks. Kansas City Mayor Quinton Lucas took questions about it almost two weeks ago before the Chiefs vs. Texans game.

Lucas said that the city will continue to celebrate any team or big event. But he couldn’t go into detail about what that could look like this year or where it would be.

“We look at all options,” Lucas said. “In of decisions made right now, I think that if we are so lucky, and it’s still knock on wood, we will continue to have celebrations like we have had in the past. I think in of where we would do it, downtown Kansas City is always an important part of how we celebrate and bring our community together and from there. I think there are a lot of other determinations to be made, which we’ll be sure to share with you in due course.”

On Monday, almost two weeks later, the mayor’s office won’t confirm any new information, referring us back to these comments before Sunday’s win.

“It’s a pretty broad pure government planning type of thing,” Lucas said. “Usually, we don’t have a conversation in advance, but that doesn’t mean that we don’t have real extensive discussions -- by conversations, I mean we don’t have an extensive public conversation. It probably won’t surprise you to know and to think that we don’t do these things in two days. We are usually trying to arrange a number of things, and this is no different.”

KCTV5 reached out to many other surrounding agencies -- including the Kansas City, Missouri Police Department and Kansas City, Missouri Fire Department, that have a hand in this process. They referred all questions and comments to the city.

“We will continue to work with our partners on the collaboration and discussion of different ideas and ways that we can create a more safe, secure and enjoyable environment for all attending any event held in our city,” said a spokesperson for the Kansas City Police Department.

The mayor’s spokesperson told KCTV5 that he will announce the plans for a potential parade after the Super Bowl.
