WYANDOTTE COUNTY, Kan. (KCTV) - The Wyandotte County Sheriff’s Office is alerting area residents of a scam being reported that uses the office in the bait.

In a post on Facebook, the sheiff’s offices says they’ve recieved some 20 calls from people reporting they’ve recived the messages.

The calls come from a Lieutenant James Perry, claiming to be from they Wyandotte County Sheriff’s Office, but there is no one by that name within the department. It uses scare tactics claiming the target failed to appear for Federal Grand Jury Duty.

It urges the targets to call a phone number, or send an email to set up an appointment, and directs them to chat with one of their team through their website.

🚨Our office has received upwards of 2️⃣0️⃣ calls this morning to report scams!🚨 These scammers are busy, busy, busy, folks. Here are a few things this particular scam includes: - A call from a Lieutenant James Perry from our office (we don’t have any employee by that name) - Failure to appear for Federal Grand Jury Duty - Rescheduling options that include calling a phone number or sending an email to set up an appointment - Directions to chat with one of their team through their “website” While you may not receive this exact call, please use this as a reminder to be extra vigilant and suspicious of calls that come from unknown numbers. If you ever are not sure if you are being scammed, please hang up and call our office to the information. If you have been victimized and have suffered financial loss as a result of this scam, please call our office to file a report. Stay safe, WyCo! #wycosheriff #scamalert
