The calls come from a Lieutenant James Perry, claiming to be from they Wyandotte County Sheriff’s Office, but there is no one by that name within the department. It uses scare tactics claiming the target failed to appear for Federal Grand Jury Duty.
It urges the targets to call a phone number, or send an email to set up an appointment, and directs them to chat with one of their team through their website.
In the post, the sheriff’s office urges residents to be extra vigilant and suspicous of calls that come from unknown numbers. It urges residents to hang up and call them to the infromation. The office suggests anyone who was a victim of this scam and suffered a financial loss call the office to file a report.
Captain Michael Kroening with the Sheriff’s Office told us a google seach of ‘Lt. James Perry’ brings up sories on the same or similar scams using that same name, just changing the county and the target’s name.
