INDEPENDENCE, Mo. (KCTV) - On Monday, the Independence Police Department responded to a shots fired report that turned into a standoff.

Dispatchers were notified of a shooting in the 2500 block of S. Crescent Avenue around 1 p.m. on Dec. 30.

When officers arrived, they found the caller who said that someone had shot into their home. When they checked the home, the officers found evidence that confirmed the caller’s claims.

The officers tried talking to the suspect, but he reportedly told them to “shoot me” and then barricaded himself in his own home. After several hours of negotiations, the man was taken into custody without incident.

The circumstances surrounding this incident and why shots were fired are unclear. Independence police say there is no danger to the public and the investigation is ongoing.
