Patrick Mahomes, Sr., gets 5 years probation for DWI
TYLER, Texas (KLTV) - Patrick Mahomes, Sr., was officially sentenced to probation Monday for his February DWI arrest.
Mahomes, 54, was arrested on Feb. 24 after a traffic stop resulted in him submitting blood with an alcohol content of 0.23. On Aug. 27, he pleaded guilty to driving while intoxicated and agreed to a five-year probation sentence in Judge Kerry L. Russell’s court. On Monday, the sentence was made official in the same court.
During the Monday hearing, it was specified that Mahomes will have his driver’s license suspended for one year and will have a breathalyzer ignition device installed in his vehicle. He was ordered to spend 10 days in jail, and will be subject to “intense supervision” for the first year of his probation. He will also be required to continue AA courses.
In an interview after the sentencing, Mahomes said he believes the outcome is a good thing, saying he hasn’t had a drink since the arrest.
“Hopefully it will enlighten someone else to take these measures and make sure this doesn’t happen again,” said Mahomes.
When asked about leaving the county during football season, Russell deferred those decisions to Mahomes’ probation officer. Mahomes is the father of the Kansas City Chiefs’ star QB Patrick Mahomes II.
“It’s kind of a tradition; I normally go to all the football games. I know he enjoys me being there, so hopefully things will work out and I’ll be able to continue what I’ve been doing,” Mahomes said.
On June 29, Mahomes was given an additional charge of driving while license invalid, to which he pleaded not guilty on July 26. He is set to appear for a pre-trial hearing in regards to the charge on Oct. 15.
