Suspect taken into custody after shots fired outside Overland Park McDonald’s
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. (KCTV) - Police arrested a man who shot a gun early this morning at the McDonald’s on 110th Street and Quivira Road a block from Johnson County Community College.
Police said an employee approached the man sitting on a black Chevrolet sedan in the parking lot when he began waving what appeared to be a semi-automatic rifle. The employee ran back into the McDonald’s where they called the police.
Overland Park officers arrived within minutes. That’s when the suspect began firing his weapon. Officers took cover demanding the man put down the gun. The suspect continued to shoot until his weapon was either empty or jammed. He then dropped his weapon and was arrested.
No one is reported hurt and nothing is reported stolen.

It all began at 5:15 a.m. when police got reports of an aggravated assault on College Blvd. and Oakmont Street. When they arrived at that location they were unable to find the suspect. They then checked traffic cameras and just after 5:30 a.m. saw the suspect sitting on the car at McDonald’s.
Because police were already on the lookout for the person in question and in the area they were able to arrive quickly to the fast food restaurant.
The McDonald’s closed for a time but re-opened for business at 10:30 a.m.
