WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH)—On Saturday morning, the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints held a ceremony to prepare for the church’s first temple in Kansas.

It was first announced in 2022 that a temple would be built in Wichita. Previously, the nearest locations were Oklahoma City and Kansas City, MO.

It will be located at Meridian and 51st in northwest Wichita.

Construction is expected to start shortly after the groundbreaking. No date has been announced for when it will start or when the temple will open, but construction is planned to move forward expeditiously.
