KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - The Kansas City Crossroads Arts District tweeted that it is almost ready to form a Community Improvement District (CID).

The social media post stated that in the final section of forming a CID, organizers need in-person signatures from individual property owners.

A CID at the Crossroads would improve current conditions and make the area safer and cleaner, the group posted. Out of 245 people surveyed who are Stakeholders in the Crossroads, 65% of them want a CID. The top three services preferred were security, a tree-planting program and graffiti removal.

Officials stated that 1,265 surveys were distributed.

The CID would cover the entire Crossroads excluding a few areas that already are parts of existing or planned CIDs.

Funds collected from property assessments based on the property’s traffic in the district will be used to make requested, strategic, and visible improvements to the neighborhood. At the same time, the character of the Crossroads would be maintained.

Funding will come from property assessments and a half-cent sales tax. A CID in the Crossroads would add 0.5% sales tax to all retail sales. A board member of nine people will manage funds based on responses from the community.

Services provided will include security, greenspace and streetscape, trash, graffiti removal and First Friday management.
