Mizzou, K-State, KU all featured in Coaches’ Poll heading into 2024 season

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) -- High expectations are in store for each of the programs at Mizzou, K-State and Kansas heading into the 2024 season. So it was no surprise that the Tigers, Wildcats and Jayhawks found themselves in the preseason edition of the AFCA Coaches Poll, which was released Monday.

The Tigers, fresh off a Cotton Bowl win to end the 2023 season, are ranked 11th. K-State and KU -- coming off bowl wins of their own -- are ranked 17th and 24th, respectively.

It’s KU’s first appearance in the preseason Coaches Poll since 2008.

Mizzou, at 11 in the Coaches Poll is the fifth-highest ranked SEC team, trailing Georgia (1), Texas (4), Alabama (5) and Ole Miss (6). The Tigers were ranked sixth in the SEC preseason media poll, but were one spot ahead of LSU (12) in the Coaches Poll.

K-State and KU are two of five Big 12 teams to be featured in the Coaches Poll, ing Utah (13), Oklahoma State (18) and Arizona (21) in the now 16-team conference. The Jayhawks and Wildcats were each picked to finish in the top four of the Big 12 preseason poll.

The Tigers open their season on Aug. 29 against Murray State. Kansas begins its year with a game against Lindenwood on Aug. 29 and K-State hosts UT Martin in Manhattan on Aug. 31.
