CLAY CO., Mo. (KCTV) - Nearly a year after a Liberty, Missouri, business owner was hit and killed outside his truck, investigators continue to seek information about his killer.

The Clay County, Missouri, Sheriff’s Office announced on Wednesday, July 24, that nearly a year after John Paul Scheidecker was killed in a hit-and-run collision, information is still sought.

Just before 3:55 p.m. on July 30, 2023, first responders said they were called to NE 120th St. between Highway A and Fishing River Rd., in front of Leo’s Italian Restaurant, with reports of a collision. When they arrived, they found Scheidecker, who was 30 at the time, had been hit and killed.

Investigators found that Scheidecker had pulled his vehicle over and got out when he was hit by another unknown vehicle. The driver did not stop. Weeks later, his family put up a $5,000 reward for information that would lead to the prosecution of his killer.

Nearly a year later, investigators said they continue to come up short on leads. They have pursued various clues, however, more information is still needed.

Meanwhile, Scheidecker’s family is now out thousands of dollars after his truck was held in a Kansas City tow lot as evidence in the case for months.

Anyone with information about the incident should report it to the TIPS Hotline at 816-474-TIPS.
