Kansas City pickup owner dies after dragged during attempt to stop theft
KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - The owner of a Kansas City pickup has died after they were dragged during an attempt to stop the theft of their truck.
The Kansas City, Missouri, Police Department says that just before 1:05 p.m. on Wednesday, July 17, emergency crews were called to the area of 29th and The Paseo, near Troost Park, with reports of a hit-and-run collision.
When first responders arrived, they said they found an unknown suspect had attempted to steal a white Ford F-350 pickup truck as the owner tried to stop them. The suspect got behind the wheel of the truck and took off as the owner was dragged by the vehicle.
Finally, KD said the victim was freed from the pickup and thrown to the pavement while the suspect sped away in the stolen truck without stopping. The truck’s owner was pronounced dead at the scene.
Law enforcement officials noted that this is the 51st fatality crash of 2024, compared to 46 at the same time in 2023.
