KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) -Local hands are lending a helping hand in Texas. Following a powerful punch from former Hurricane Beryl Monday, Operation BBQ Relief spent the day preparing to provide hot meals to those affected.

Beryl knocked out power to more than 2.7 million customers and killed at least 11 people. It was later downgraded to a tropical storm.

So, nonprofit organizations are now stepping in.

“We are scouting out the areas that have the greatest need,” Stan Hays, CEO and Founder of the Kansas City based organization said.

Hays says they could hand out 10,000 to 15,000 meals a day in Texas.

The organization will spend the first few days distributing food to first responders and search and rescue teams.

“Until we start getting it really known in the community that we are there.” Hays says, “We’re working with the state of Texas and emergency management to ensure that where we’re going is also where they see the biggest need.”

Hays says he looks forward to getting to the state as they have already received requests from people in need of comfort.

“At the end of the day there is something very fulfilling about the reaction you see and you feel from somebody that you know can never repay you for that act of kindness,” Hays said.

The from the community is crucial.
