Perez, Witt Jr. advance to Phase 2 of MLB All-Star voting

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - Kansas City Royals shortstop Bobby Witt Jr. and catcher Salvador Perez are one step closer to the MLB All-Star game.
Perez and Witt Jr. were named AL All-Star Finalists after Phase 1 of the MLB All-Star Game voting concluded Thursday.
The two Royals stars trailed a pair of Baltimore Orioles stars for the lead in their respective positional voting races. Witt Jr. trails Gunnar Henderson and Perez trails Adley Rutschman. Luckily for Royals fans hoping to see either Perez or Witt Jr. start in the mid-summer classic, voting totals re-set ahead of Phase 2.

Once Phase 2 re-sets, fans can vote only once per 24-hour period on MLB platforms.
The winners at each position -- and three outfielders in each league -- will be revealed as All-Star starters on ESPN at 6 p.m. CT on July 3. Non-starters for the All-Star game will be announced at 4:30 p.m. CT on ESPN on Sunday, July 7.
If Witt Jr. makes the All-Star Game, it would be his first career appearance -- and come in his home state. Perez is an eight-time MLB All-Star.
The MLB All-Star Game will be played on Tuesday, July 16, at Globe Life Field in Arlington, Texas.
