KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - While kids in Kansas City might be worrying about coal this Christmas, the Chiefs will be getting steel.

Ahead of the NFL’s official Wednesday night schedule release show at 7 p.m. CT., the NFL and Netflix announced that it will debut an NFL Christmas Day doubleheader live on the streaming platform.

Just as they did with Amazon Prime Video in 2022 and a Peacock-exclusive playoff broadcast in January, the NFL has tabbed the Kansas City Chiefs to play in the first game on the new platform. The two-time defending champions will get a Christmas Day trip to Pittsburgh to take on the Steelers.

The NFL said the game will be played at 12 p.m. CT. It will be required to be shown on network television in the home market of Kansas City and Pittsburgh. At 3:30 p.m. CT the Baltimore Ravens will take on the Houston Texans.

With Christmas falling on a Wednesday, the NFL will put the four teams playing on Christmas in a Saturday-Wednesday scheduling set-up for Weeks 16 and 17, meaning the Christmas Day announcement is likely to be accompanied by a Saturday, Dec. 21 matchup between the Chiefs and Texans at Arrowhead Stadium.

So far, the NFL has officially announced these matchups for Kansas City ahead of Wednesday night’s full release:

  • Week 1: Thursday, Sept. 5 vs. Baltimore Ravens 7:20 p.m. on NBC
  • Week 2: Sunday, Sept. 15 vs. Cincinnati Bengals 3:25 p.m. on CBS
  • Week 17: Wednesday, Dec. 25 @ Pittsburgh Steelers 12 p.m. CT on Netflix/local broadcast channel TBD

Kansas City hasn’t played in Pittsburgh since Week 2 of the 2018 NFL season, when quarterback Patrick Mahomes threw for 6 touchdowns en route to a 42-37 victory.
