KANSAS CITY, Mo. (KCTV) - What has become an annual display throughout the Kansas City year will go on a hiatus next year.

Board chair LaVon Colhour told KCTV5 on Friday that the organization initially planned for the art exhibit to take place every other year, with a break in 2023.

“We were supposed to take a break in 2023, but that didn’t happen because of some amazing things in Kansas City last year,” she said. “We had a limited edition.”

Last year brought to Kansas City a Chiefs playoff and Super Bowl run, the ensuing parade, the opening of the new KCI terminal, the NFL draft, and Taylor Swift and Beyonce concerts, to name a few.

This year, the Parade of Hearts will feature 101 displays. But next year, there won’t be any.

“We will go dark in 2025 to gear up for some other big things happening in 2026,” Colhour said. “This is the last year that you will see this version of the heart. It will change a little bit. We’re not sure what that will look like, but stay tuned.”

The Parade of Hearts Reveal kickoff event takes place on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the American Royal Governor’s Expo (1701 American Royal Dr.)

Tickets for adults (12+) are $10, children 3-12 are $5 apiece and those under 2 years old are free.
