Kansas Jayhawks announce games at Arrowhead, Children’s Mercy Park in 2024
LAWRENCE, Kan. (KCTV) - The Kansas Jayhawks have a new home, and Kansas City has a new hometown team, at least for 2024.
The University of Kansas announced Tuesday morning the Jayhawks will play two games at Children’s Mercy Park plus another four games at GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium during the 2024 football season.
With the change, Kansas Football will still play all six of its 2024 home games in the Kansas City metro area. The schedule is as follows:
Children’s Mercy Park
- Lindenwood on Aug. 29
- UNLV on Sept. 14
GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium
- TCU on Sept. 28
- Houston on Oct. 19
- Iowa State on Nov. 9
- Colorado on Nov. 23
The relocation is needed because construction is underway on the Gateway District and new David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium in Lawrence.
The university said the alternate venues allow it to provide fan amenities and a full event experience that would not be possible in a reduced capacity Memorial Stadium. It also pointed out that playing the six games outside Lawrence is necessary to keep the Gateway District construction on schedule. The project is expected to allow KU to host its 2025 home games in Lawrence.
Kansas Athletics said it is working on a plan to provide student transportation and accommodations for all six home games in Kansas City. The student tickets available for games at Children’s Mercy Park will be about 3,500. KU Athletics said that is about the same as the student capacity at David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium when it is full. At GEHA Field at Arrowhead Stadium, student numbers will match or exceed the total number available at David Booth Kansas Memorial Stadium.
Information on fan parking, suites and other opportunities at both venues will be released in the coming weeks.
Due to season ticket holder demand, single-game tickets are not expected to be on sale for the two games at Children’s Mercy Park in 2024.
