LABETTE COUNTY, Kan. (KWCH) - The Labette County Sheriff’s Office said a woman died on Jan. 13 as the result of an accidental shooting.

The sheriff’s office said deputies and Kansas Wildlife & Parks officers were called to the Grand Osage Wildlife Area in Oswego around 4:41 p.m. on Saturday.

A man told investigators that he and his wife had returned to their vehicle after finishing deer hunting. The man, identified as Derek Hall, said he laid down his rifle on the back seat of their pickup and attempted to unload it. Hall said when he took the rifle off “safe” it went off, striking his wife, Christina Hall.

Christina was taken to Labette Health where she died from her injuries.
